Palangka Raya (Public Relations) .The Head of Palangka Raya City Health Office ,Andjar Hari Purnomo through the non-communicable disease subsection Hetty Andriani conveyed the importance of socialization of Non-Smoking Areas (KTR) for schools or madrasahs in the hall of Dandang Tingang, Tuesday (12/12/2020).
In her presentation, Hetty Andriani reminded representatives of high school, vocational school, Madrasah Aliyah, and junior high school about the dangers of cigarettes. Even people who do not smoke and happen to be in the Area of people who smoke can also get the impact as well, explained Hetty Andriani.
Among the diseases that people can suffer from smoking are stroke, heart attack, lung cancer, asthma and many more, she said. Similarly, people who are exposed to cigarette smoke or called passive smokers can also get the disease, she added.
Therefore, in order to save the nation's children who are students from the dangers of cigarettes, it is necessary to regulate about this KTR, said Hetty Andriani. This has been mentioned in local regulation No. 3 of 2014 on Non-Smoking Areas and Regulation of the Minister of Education No. 64 of 2015 on KTR in school or madrasah environment.
For those who violate these rules, they will be given prison sentences and or fines, either for school residents who smoke in the education area, the person in charge of the school who does not give a reprimand or socialization about KTR or for sellers and cigarette advertisers in the school environment.
Also present at the meeting were deputy of head of public relations of MAN Palangka Raya Asran Dirun and several representatives from private Madrasah Aliyah, SMA (Senior high school), SMK (Vocational school) and SMP(Junior high school)
Asran Dirun, who got the opportunity to ask ,suggested that the health service which is leading its sector in the field of public health to provide recommendations to the mayor or governor so that the sanctions given are tougher, because the dangers posed by cigarettes are the same as the dangers of drugs, Similarly, input from the headmaster of SMAN 3 Sudiro suggested that officials who have positions in government agencies should have rules that mention the ban on smoking in the region, because many of them are heavy smokers,smoking heavily at work.
At the end of the meeting Hetty Andriani told the participants who smoke to come forward to test the levels of carbon monoxide in their bodies. The result was known that the participants who smoke had high levels of carbon monoxide comparing to other participants who did not smoke. It was shown that the figure was low, which showed its carbon monoxide levels were low.
Hetty Andriani suggested to participants who smoke to quit, especially later if it is seen by students it will certainly not give good impression. Let's socialize this KTR to our friends so that they do not smoke in school or madrasah environment, she concluded. (Asdi)
